m-Learning

The term M-Learning, or “mobile learning”, has different meanings for different communities. Although related to e-Learning and distance learning education, it is distinct in its focus on learning across contexts and learning with mobile. One definition of mobile learning is:

Any sort of learning that happens when the learner is not at a fixed, predetermined location, or learning that happens when the learner takes advantage of the learning opportunities offered by mobile technologies.

In other words mobile learning decreases limitation of learning location with the mobility of general portable devices.

The term covers: learning with portable technologies including but not limited to handheld computers, MP3 Players notebooks and mobile phones. M-learning focuses on the mobility of the learner, interacting with portable technologies, and learning that reflects a focus on how society and its institutions can accommodate and support an increasingly mobile population.

KHLInteractive offer two options as part of their m-Learning production service.

Option 1: m-Learning through a mobile browser.

This supports:

  • courses automatically working on all smartphones – mobile devices that have a browser
  • HTML5 – NB HTML5 supports audio (OGA) and video (OGV) without a plug-in, allowing mobile web sites to run audio and video’s on all smartphones – including iPhones.
  • the creation of tests – they are set-up to automatically work on all smartphones – mobile devices that have a browser
  • registration of students and saving of test scores

We support Android, Blackberry, Chrome, Droid, iPhone, Minimo, Palm, Samsung, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Windows CE  and many other mobile environment/browser combinations. NB The screens automatically render for displayed content.

Option 2: An App Portal with an m-Learning gateway:
i.e: a combination of an App and m-Learning solution.

For example: A typical iPhone/Smartphone  App user will be able to take advantage or supportive course materials, provide email feedback, ‘catch’ the latest podcasts, Twitter collaboration and the option to run the course via a browser or a mobile rendered standard browser.
